    Sadio Mane scored a brace for Liverpool to defeat Bayern Munich

    Liverpool thrash Bayern Munich by 3-1 at the Allianz Arena to proceed into the quarter final of the Champions League. Sadio Mane starred scoring a brace to give the Reds a well deserved 3-1 aggregate victory.
    Virgil van Dijk also put in a massive performance crowned with an important goal and Bayern fail to qualify for the quarter final of the competition for the first time since 2010/11 when they were dumped out by Inter Milan in the round-of-16 stage.

    It's a massive statement for English football as Liverpool join the other three Premier League teams in the quarter finals. This is the first time four English teams will progress into the quarter final since 2008/09 season where Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all got to the quarter final stage.
    James Milner has provided 10 Champions League assists since the start of last season, more than any other player in the competition.
    Mane has scored seven away goals for Liverpool in the Champions League, more than any player ever for the club. He has also scored 69% of his goals in the competition in the knockout stages.
    Manuel Neuer is the sixth goalkeeper to play 100 Champions League games after Iker Casillas, Petr Cech, Olivier Kahn, Victor Valdes and Gianluigi Buffon.

    Lionel Messi star in Barcelona 5-1 win over Lyon as the Nou Camp side proceed into the quarter final. The contest ended in a 5-1 aggregate win for Barcelona and they will now find out their opponent for the quarter final on Friday. Messi scored a brace while Philippe Coutinho, Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele all scored one goal each.

    This is the 12th successive season that Barcelona would be playing in the quarter final of this competition.
    Barcelona are yet to lose in their last 30 Champions League home matches, winning 27 and drawing three.
    Lyon scored their 200th Champions League goals, the first side to achieve that milestone from France.
    Messi has now scored 62 goals in 61 Champions League matches at the Camp Nou.
    This is the first time Lionel Messi will score twice and assist two goals in a single Champions League game.
    Ousmane Dembele has now scored in each of his last four home Champions League matches.
