| Leroy Sane scored a sublime free kick against his former side |
10-man Manchester City came from behind to secure a 3-2 win away at Schalke in the first-leg of the Champions League round-of-16. It wasn't too much of a good display from Pep Guardiola's side with all negativities through the night but they eventually got the advantage ahead of the return leg at the Etihad.
Sergio Aguero scored first for City very early in the first half but Nabil Bentaleb scored twice from the penalty spot to hand over joy to the German side by making it 2-1 just before half-time. Nicolas Otamendi later got red carded with only about an half-hour mark to go and Manchester City have Leroy Sane to thank for giving them a lifeline through a free kick in the 85th minute. Raheem Sterling sealed the victory for City with a 90th minute goal.
Since they lost to Bayern Munich in September 2014, Manchester City are yet to taste a defeat in their last eight Champions League matches against German sides.
Schalke's nine game home unbeaten run in European competitions came to an end. The last time they lost an home game in Europe was against Shakhtar Donetsk in 2016.
Sergio Aguero has now scored 10 goals in his last seven games for City and he has scored a total of 11 goals in 2019, the highest in Europe top five leagues.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more away Champions League goals than Sergio Aguero since the start of last season. Aguero has seven while Ronaldo has eight.
Sane has scored three and assisted five in his last seven games for City.
Bentaleb has scored all his 14 penalties for Schalke.
Otamendi got his first marching order for City in his 161st game for the club.

| Jose Gimenez scored a goal for Atletico Madrid yesterday |
Atletico Madrid convincingly defeated Juventus by 2-0 to put themselves in pole position to qualify for the next round of the Champions League. Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin both scored late in the match to handover the Quarter final lifeline to Diego Simeone. Juventus were not bad but the night didn't seem to be meant for them and it's now a big mountain to climb against a well-structured Atletico Madrid defence in the second leg.
Atletico are yet to lose a knockout European home game under Simeone. They've played 16, won 12 and drawn four.
Juventus have now faced Atletico Madrid three times in the Champions League and have only drawn once, winning none with Atletico keeping clean sheets in all three matches.
This is the first time since October 2014 that Juventus would lost consecutive Champions League games.
Only Real Madrid who has 13 have kept more Champions League knockout clean sheets than Atletico who have 12 since the start of 2013/14 season.
