Arsenal opened the avenue for top four fight as they beat Chelsea who failed to come to the party 2-0 at the Emirates stadium thanks to first half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny.
Chelsea were lacklustre throughout the match having only one shot on target. The gap for top four has now been reduced to three; Chelsea are 4th with 47 points, Arsenal and Manchester United both have 44 points standing in 5th and 6th respectively.
Arsenal won consecutive home matches over Chelsea for the first time in all competitions since February 2004.
In their last seven away London derbies, Chelsea have only won one, drawing two and losing four, the win came against Crystal Palace last December.
Arsenal have won their last six home London derbies, unbeaten in the last 13 with 10 wins and three draws.
Arsenal now have eight points against the big six this season, more than they had in the whole of last campaign where they had six.
Lacazette has scored five of his eight Premier League goals this season in London derbies with only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring more London derby goals than his teammate in the whole of Premier League this season with six goals.
